So I stumbled across a French review of the “Fiction Clemens” series today. The review was quite positive…I think. Seeing as how I don’t speak french I had to resort to a Babelfish translation–always a recipe for hilarity. Below is a translated copy of the text. The concluding paragraph is my favorite.

“All starts in a saloon where Fiction Clemens enters. This one orders glass when an young girl approaches it. The reaction of the catch is at the very least particular since it points its revolver on the young woman. But that does not prevent Tiberius Kitchens mistaking and from thinking that Clemens has piqué to him his/her boyfriend. Whereas Kitchens misses strangling its false adversary, it is struck by another person present at the bar and badly éméchée.
Fiction and Dune trixie (since such is its name) thus will have to escape the claws from the Kitchens son. And that will not be easy thing: the Kitchens family is well-known downtown to be that which manages more the large company of toothpicks containing spines of cactus, but the family has also many spies. Without counting the various mercenaries who will want to touch a premium by finding our couple of fugitive.
Josh Wagner thus weaves with Fiction Clemens a western particularly removed from rim. The most required raw material is the cactus, there are cordless phones which are hung there and one speaks about the arrival of not-identified flying objects. The rumours are persistent, most solid being that the city is under the influence of a mysterious clock and watch maker who is supposed to control all the inhabitants. And that is finally only the simplest part of the history since progressively, from the supporting characters will be stuck to the principal intrigue, each one having its own diary and especially a character varying of phlegmatic with the stupid completion.
There is thus in these three numbers a foultitude of ideas, perhaps even too since one always does not include/understand why they arrive. But it is the characteristic of an account which goes all the same very very quickly and which is stuffed of humour. The reader will be perhaps sometimes lost but always with the smile with the lips.
It is Joiton which deals with the drawing and the unknown (in any case for me) will badly put not style in its characters and his setting in scene. The whole is very cartoon, the characters far from being realistic and the expressions of the faces often extremely exaggerated. Blow, that swingue not badly there too and the illustrations are with the height of is delirious of the scenario. Then yes, on the level of the constancy and the control of the feature, that is not always that but however, the title is very pretty thanks to the colour application of Alejandro Marmontel, Veronica Gandini and Nicolas Peña.
With final, Fiction Clemens is very a good surprise because it is full of good mood and faggots with ideas that one does not see coming and stupid characters not controlling absolutely what arrives to them. Josh Wagner will work on a frankness (Sky Pirates at Image I believe) and I thus will pass this comic-book but I await his next personal production of firm footing.
