Deadwind Sea

No one could believe their eyes when Sergio, the unluckiest shepherd in the village, married Ivette, the most beautiful woman in medieval Europe. But when Ivette dies six days after their wedding, Sergio embarks on a fantastic voyage across the Western Sea to bring her back from the Land of the Dead.

The story begins in 14th century Spain, making stops in Rome, Byzantium, and the North Pole before following the setting sun into the timeless Land of the Dead. On the way Sergio encounters a ship-full of lazy pirates, a monster hunter displaced in time, a psychotic Kris Kringle, and some seriously mind-bending cosmology. Arriving at last on the untouched continent that history would later call “America”, Sergio finds himself at the heart of a drama to liberate the new frontier from stagnation, a drama that takes him far beyond the world’s horizon.

DEADWIND SEA’s narrative flows with the sort of innovation and levity that made THE PRINCESS BRIDE work so well, while at the same time treading a darker, more elusive undercurrent. Highly accessible, yet starkly intelligent, Deadwind Sea maintains an air of whimsy and imagination, while packing one heck of an emotional punch.

Deadwind Sea was written in the winter of 2008 while Josh was living out of his truck in Arizona.

The Adventures of the Imagination of Periphery Stowe

Josh Wagner’s first novel. A future fairy-tale. A farce-o-sophical adventure of intellect and whimsy. The story of the boy who was not afraid of one single thing, and of how the secrets of immortality were hidden in the Imagination of Periphery Stowe.

“a hyper-real Dr.-Seuss-writes-No-Exit.”
— DAVID BAXTER; BROKEN FRONTIER

"A combination of Edgar Rice Burroughs and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy . . . truly a head-trip."
-- BOB SPEAR; HEARTLAND REVIEWS

***

In a world where eternal youth is just something folks are learning to live without, Riggs Bombay, the boy who is not afraid of one single thing, only wanted to find a cure for his hallucinations.

What he finds instead is Periphery Stowe's old storybook--a mystery entangled in the pages of history, and coveted by the secret powers of the world. Now Riggs must lug his hallucinations through valleys and vortexes, dodging the greedy grasp of codgers, villains, and philosophers long enough to deliver Stowe's book to the one man in the world who wants nothing to do with it!

Written during an adventure of his own into India, Wagner's poetic first novel offers a whimsical glimpse into the source of our fears, and a wink to our longing for longevity. Obsessive characters and dazzling imagery span the eternal horizon of this charming fable, from one quiet mountain village, to the infinite eye of the void somewhere on the periphery of Mister Stowe's imagination."
